Statistical Integrity

Editorial Policy & Data Methodology

How we calculate, qualify, verify, and maintain cricket records across 14,500+ player profiles.

Core Data Promise: Zero Fabricated Metrics

At CricPlayers, we adhere to strict statistical integrity guidelines. We do not invent career averages, fabricate live match outcomes, or generate unverified player biographical claims.

When a metric is unrecorded or unavailable in historical scorecards (such as balls faced in early 20th-century Test matches), we explicitly present an em-dash (“—”) rather than deceptively showing zero.

Official Calculation Formulas

Batting Average
Runs / (Innings - Not Outs)

If dismissals equal zero, average is undefined and presented as “—” to prevent division-by-zero artifacts.

Batting Strike Rate
(Runs / Balls Faced) × 100

Requires balls faced data. Where balls faced were not recorded historically, strike rate is omitted.

Bowling Average
Runs Conceded / Wickets Taken

Lower values represent superior efficiency. Zero wickets yields an undefined average.

Economy Rate
Runs Conceded / (Balls Bowled / 6)

Measures average runs conceded per 6-ball legal over.

Minimum Qualification Rules

Small sample sizes can distort rate-based leaderboards (e.g. a batter scoring 40 runs in one innings with a 40.0 average should not outrank an established opener with 8,000 runs). We enforce transparent eligibility criteria:

  • Batting Average Records: Minimum of 20 completed innings in Test or ODI cricket.
  • Strike Rate Records: Minimum of 250 balls faced in T20I or 500 balls in ODI cricket.
  • Bowling Average / Economy: Minimum of 500 balls bowled in Test or 300 balls in ODI cricket.
